The Origin of Ceramic Graters The history of the ceramic grater begins in Japan. As early as 1596, wasabi roots were rubbed there with stone suspenders, sharkskin graters and metal graters. The meshes were large and were usually used exclusively in restaurants and places where wasabi was produced. A brief history of the grater In the 1970s, the production of round ceramic graters began for the first time - the Spanish grater. Since they were fired below 1100°C, they were not very strong. Ceramico Finland started producing square ceramic graters in 2009. The reason was simply the lack of good ceramic grinders in Europe. The design, as it is still used today, comes from the famous Finnish ceramic designer Merja Tammi. Our background Leon Ancker, who has worked passionately as a chef for more than 35 years with a wide variety of cooking utensils, is behind the idea of producing good and aesthetic graters. Today, graters are produced by Minna Sola, whose family has been producing ceramic products and ceramic kilns since 1952. Leon's vision was to use the grater plate to develop a high-quality product that convinces with effectiveness and lasts a lifetime.
