How does Promoted Listings work?

In this guide

Promoted Listings on Faire is a strategic way to boost product visibility by targeting high-intent retailers. Here's how it works:

Audience Selection: Choose the audience you want to reach. You'll have the option to promote your listings to new customers only or new and returning customers. Advertising to both is the best way to maximize the reach of your ads.

Set a Budget: Establish a monthly budget that aligns with your budget. This helps manage your advertising expenses effectively.

Automated Targeting: We take the guesswork out of advertising by using data and insights to automatically target verified retailers who are a good fit for your brand, with products we think they’ll purchase by strategically placing your products in search results and on browse pages.

Relevance and Order Likelihood: Faire employs an algorithm to decide which products to promote from your catalog, focusing on relevance to a retailer’s search queries or browsing history and the estimated likelihood of an order being placed.

Only Pay for Clicks: We don’t charge for visibility—we only charge you when a retailer clicks on your promoted listings.

Choose your growth mode: Tell us how aggressively to promote your products to retailers

How do I start advertising?

To start advertising, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Promoted Listings
  2. Select Start advertising
  3. Choose the audience for your promoted listings
  4. Set your monthly budget and start date, and select Continue
  5. Select your payment method
  6. Select Start advertising

How do I set my budget?

When you enroll in the programme or update your audience settings, you will be prompted to set a budget for your ads. Faire may recommend budget amounts based on a variety of factors, but you can set your desired budget within the applicable limits.

There is a minimum budget amount established by Faire. If you attempt to set a budget below the minimum, you will receive an error message indicating the minimum amount.

Your budget applies to the audience option you select:

  • New Customers only: Your entire budget is used for ads shown to new customers.
  • New and Returning Customers: Your budget covers ads shown to both audiences. When advertising to New and Returning Customers, you can use a shared budget that Faire allocates across both audiences on your behalf, or split your budget by setting a distinct amount for each audience. If you select New and Returning Customers and the Shared budget option, Faire may apply certain criteria before ad spend is applied to returning customers — for example, a minimum number of returning customers. If these criteria are not met, your full budget may be applied to new customer ads.

How do I update my budget?

You can update your budget at any time. Here is how changes work:

  • How your budget is spent: We spread your monthly budget evenly across the period, though daily spend may fluctuate to keep your ads active when traffic is highest. Your total spend will never exceed your monthly budget.
  • When changes take effect: Budget updates take effect the day after you submit the change and are prorated for the remaining days in the period.
  • Budget minimum: Any revised budget must still meet the minimum budget requirement. Your updated campaign may also spend up to one extra day of the new prorated budget ahead of pace on any given day.

How does the pay-per-click pricing model work?

We use a pay-per-click (PPC) pricing model and only charge you when a retailer clicks on your promoted listings. We charge once per click per ad impression, so for example if a retailer clicks on the same listing multiple times in the same session, you’ll only be charged once. However, if a retailer sees multiple promoted listings from you (ex: in different searches or shopping sessions, or in search and then on a category page) and clicks on each of those unique ads, you’ll be charged again. We set a bid per click based on the predicted conversion rate, which means the cost per click may vary. You will be able to calculate the cost per click weekly (calculated by total ad $ spent divided by # total clicks) based on the data provided in your performance summary. That being said, we recommend focusing on customers acquired and reorders ad sales rather than clicks as that is the best representation of the return you're getting from ads.

How does Faire automatically target retailers?

Faire determines the placement of your Promoted Listings based on the likelihood that the product will be a great fit for a given retailer. The slot in which your Promoted Listing appears will change based on the retailer’s profile and interests. This ensures that your ads are targeted to retailers who are most likely to convert and purchase your products, therefore increasing the likelihood of a strong return on your ad spend. Faire Direct retailers will not be shown your Promoted Listings.

If you’re advertising to new customers, we only target:

  • Verified retailers who’ve never placed an order from you on Faire
  • Retailers searching for products like yours. For example, a retailer searching for “Soy candles” won’t see a promoted listing for “Polka dot dresses”

If you’re advertising to returning customers, we only target:

  • Returning retailers who were not acquired through ads in the past year
  • Returning retailers searching for products like yours. For example, a retailer searching for “Soy candles” won’t see a promoted listing for “Polka dot dresses”

Which countries will my listings be promoted in?

Promoted Listings is available in the USA, Canada, and Europe (the European market is currently in beta which means that only select brands have access. Brands who are part of the beta have been notified). Your products will be promoted to retailers based in any of these regions. However, if you have disabled selling to a particular country, we will not promote your listings to retailers in that country.

We only show your ads to retailers who are actively searching for products like yours and are likely to place an order. You will only be charged when a retailer clicks on your listing — not for impressions.

Will you promote my listings to customers that I initially acquired through Promoted Listings?

If you choose to advertise to returning customers, we will promote your products to any retailer who has purchased from you in the past unless they were acquired through promoted listings within a year or are a Faire Direct customer.

How many qualifying retailers do I need to be able to advertise to returning customers?

You can advertise to returning customers no matter how many qualifying ones you have, but results will be limited if the audience is small.

Can I choose which products are promoted?

By default, all of your available products will be eligible to be promoted. However, you can exclude a product from your promoted listings if you want to. To exclude a product from your promoted listings, please follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Products tab in your brand portal.
  2. Select the product you want to exclude.
  3. Scroll down to Product settings.
  4. Turn on the toggle for Exclude this product from your promoted listings.
  5. Select Update to save your changes.

Keeping more of your catalog eligible for promotion increases the chances of your products being shown to relevant retailers. Excluding a large portion of your products may reduce your ad performance by limiting promotion opportunities.

How do Promoted Listings appear to retailers?

Your Promoted Listings will visually look the same as other product listings on Faire, with the exception of a Promoted label added for marketplace trust and transparency.

Where your ads are placed will vary based on the retailer, but we’ll promote your products in favorable positions on high-traffic search and browse pages. We place ads depending on how good of a fit your products are for a retailer based on their search and browsing history on Faire to encourage stronger conversion.
