What is an order minimum?

In this guide

Your order minimum is the smallest order a retailer can place. If a retailer doesn’t meet your order minimum, they’ll see a message in their cart telling them how much more they need to add before they can proceed to checkout.

Your first-order minimum is for each retailer’s first order with you on Faire. Your reorder minimum is for returning retailers who have made at least one Faire purchase with you before, and is usually lower than the first-order minimum.

Order minimums are different from an item's minimum order quantity.

Do I have to set an order minimum?

Order minimums aren’t required, but they can help ensure you don’t receive small orders that might risk you fulfilling at a loss.

How do I change my order minimum?

To update your order minimum:

  1. Go to your Shop settings and scroll to the Order minimum section.
  2. Enter your new order minimum(s).
  3. Toggle Apply default order minimums to all countries to On if you’d like the same minimums applied everywhere you sell.
    • To apply different minimums based on location, scroll down to the International orders section to set country-specific minimums. For more information about currency specific product pricing, please see Currency specific pricing.
  4. Select Save.

Can retailers order available to ship items and preorder items to meet my minimum?

Yes, available to ship items and preorder items can be combined at checkout by the retailer to meet your order minimum. When the order is sent to you, the items will be split into multiple orders, based on the expected ship date.

Why did I receive an order lower than my minimum?

If you receive an order with a subtotal lower than your order minimum, it’s most likely a replacement order. Retailers can request to have missing or damaged items replaced, which generates a replacement order (even if it’s for a single item or below your minimum).

If an order is a replacement, there will be a refresh icon next to the order number on your Orders page. For more information on how replacements work, please see What if a retailer reports my products missing or damaged?

Another reason an order might have a subtotal under your minimum is if it was split from another order. For more information on these orders, please see Can I split an order?

If the order below your minimum is not a replacement or split order, please let us know and we’ll connect you with a support specialist to help troubleshoot.

Can I allow a one-time exception to my order minimum?

If you’d like to let a retailer place an order under your minimum, you can write them a custom order through our Invoicing tool.
