As of January 1, 2024, Canada requires digital platforms like Faire to report information to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) about certain Canadian brands operating on their platforms. This law is similar to the EU’s DAC7 directive and is designed to improve tax compliance by increasing transparency on income earned through digital platforms.
We’re legally required to collect and report information annually for Canadian brands (individuals and business entities) that meet the reporting criteria. The CRA may also share this information with tax authorities in other countries under international agreements.
Why are you collecting this information?
We’re legally obligated to report qualifying Canadian brand activity to the CRA. To learn how we handle your data, visit our Privacy Policy.
When did the reporting start?
The new rules took effect on January 1, 2024, and for that year, only applied to sellers who joined Faire in 2024.
Starting with 2025 and beyond, we'll report all Canadian brands that meet the reporting criteria, regardless of when they joined Faire.
Each year, we submit qualifying seller data to the CRA by January 31, covering the prior calendar year. For example, 2025 sales will be reported by January 31, 2026. To meet this timeline, we ask that you submit your information by January 7 each year.
Who is subject to Canadian reporting?
You’re subject to reporting if:
- You're a brand based in Canada.
- You don’t meet the criteria for an excluded seller.
You're considered an "excluded seller" and are not subject to reporting if both of these are true during the reporting year:
- You had fewer than 30 orders on Faire.
- You received less than CAD $2,800 from those orders.
If you manage multiple brand accounts, we’ll combine your orders and payouts across all accounts to determine if you meet the exclusion threshold.
Who is not subject to reporting?
Canada’s rules don’t apply to:
- Brands based outside of Canada.
- Governmental entities, listed companies, or affiliates (with more than 50% interest) of listed companies.
- Brands that qualify as excluded sellers (see above).
How do I submit my information?
If you’re subject to reporting:
- Look for a banner in your Faire portal.
- Go to Account Settings, then open the Tax Documents section.
- Review or submit your tax information.
Only account owners can view and submit this information.
What is a TIN in Canada?
Your tax identification number depends on your business type:
- Individuals: Social Insurance Number (SIN), 9 digits
- Legal entities: Business Number (BN), 9 digits
We recommend speaking with a local tax advisor to confirm your TIN.
What is the deadline for submitting my information?
If you’ve been selling on Faire and don’t qualify as an excluded seller, we’re required to report your information to the CRA. To meet this timeline, we ask that you submit your information by January 7 each year.
If you require making edits to your submission:
- before January 7: visit Can I edit my submitted information?
- after January 7: we can’t guarantee the update will be reflected in the report, but we'll do our best to help if you reach out to our support team.

If you contact us after January 7, we can’t guarantee we'll be able to make changes to your report, but we'll do our best to help.
What if I don’t provide my information?

- Freeze your payouts
- Block your ability to accept new orders
The CRA may also fine you CAD $500 for failing to provide your TIN.
Can I see what was reported?
Yes. After we’ve submitted your information to the CRA, you’ll receive an email. You’ll be able to download the reported data from your brand portal. Only account owners can access this download.
Will my info be reported if I close my account?
Yes. If your brand met the reporting criteria during the calendar year, we’re required to report your information to the CRA—even if your Faire account is deactivated.
Who will receive my information?
We’ll share your data with the CRA. The CRA may also share it with other international tax authorities under their agreements.
