Julia Sherman, a lifelong New Yorker, has always had an unusual love for salad. By 9th grade, she had cataloged the city’s best Greek salads (Joe Junior’s ranked #1), and her go-to snack after sneaking a joint in her parents’ back stairwell was mesclun greens with balsamic and chèvre—a nod to the 90s. At sleepaway camp, Sherman turned buffet leftovers into mesmerizing chopped salads, shredding roast chicken, slicing apples, and julienning deli cheese into something entirely new. After years in the Fine Art world, Sherman pivoted in 2012, deciding to move salad from side dish to centerpiece. She started “Salad for President,” a blog where she shared recipes and interviewed visual artists worldwide, eventually using it as a creative space to explore her own culinary artistry. In 2015, Sherman published her first cookbook, Salad for President: A Cookbook Inspired by Artists, and followed it in 2021 with Arty Parties: An Entertaining Cookbook. Alongside these successes, Sherman served as Creative Director at Chopt, the iconic fast-casual salad chain. She traveled the globe sourcing ingredients, crafted countless recipes with the team, and fine-tuned the balance of flavors and textures to achieve the ultimate craveability.
