Because of the natural tannins, vegetable tanned leather develops an extra rich patina that only gets better with age. Plus, it's environmentally friendly. It takes much longer, requires a ton of skill, and is more expensive to produce, but it wears in to a much richer patina than chemical tanned leather does — which makes for one hell of a belt.
