Shea Terra was founded in 2000 to introduce the Western world to beauty ingredients from women's cooperatives and wildlife conservation projects. Shea Terra is based on a unique and rare shea butter from East Africa. Due to the soft nature of the butter it is capable of being cold pressed like olive oil in comparison with West African shea butter which is boiled. Nilotika shea butter is cold pressed in a mill owned by the women's cooperative which sells it to Shea Terra. The women received several times the amount of money for their butter in comparison with West African shea butter.
