At the head of a farm for six generations, the family of Marie Veyron (creator of Nilau) began breeding ostriches in the 1990s... in Sardieu, in the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region. So small, Marie was surprised to read the surprise on the faces of adults who asked her about her parents' profession. She very quickly became passionate about this rare leather, defined as exotic, with no guaranteed origin, when she saw it precious, local and entirely traceable. Attracted by fashion, Marie imagines a leather goods brand rooted in her family history, committed to the recognition and promotion of local raw materials and know-how, trendy and inspiring. A pioneer, Nilau takes up the challenge of offering pieces that carry stories and values with: - 100% French materials: exceptional leathers resulting from the revaluation of the food industry and tracing from the farmer to the workshop, eco-friendly linen; - the ancestral know-how of breeders, tanners and leather craftsmen; - a short-circuit approach to local design and production; - a fair price for all: suppliers, craftsmen and customers. Three models make up the permanent collection, which is free from all seasonality: Alca with a structured architecture, Bépine inspired by his grandfather's old binocular case. All bags, made of fine linen and ostrich and salmon leather, are available in six timeless colors.

This business journey began when I reached my mid-thirties and struggled to find a good quality hoodie without huge logos plastered all over. I felt too self-conscious to dress like an energy drink billboard. After speaking to many of our customers over the years I have found this feeling is not uncommon. Luckily for me my life long friend Andy decided to leave the glass towers and unnatural stress of London’s square mile and join the business. Andy is a computer mathemagician working daily to improve the user experience, he's been involved with the business since 2017 and became a full partner in 2022. All efforts are made to find the best quality unbranded clothing with the aim of sourcing it before someone slaps or stitches a logo on it - we maintain a very short supply chain, keep our overheads low and pass the savings on.
