At the origin of Virunga coffee, there is the desire of an African producer to accompany his coffee from one end of the production chain to the other, from green beans to ready-to-eat coffee. The coffee comes from exceptional terroirs in Central and East Africa, Rwanda and the DRC. Two companies (Coopac and Coopac Limited) were set up there in the early 2000s to organize the production and marketing of coffee. Grown on the shores of Lake Kivu and the side of the Virunga Mountains at more than 1500 m above sea level, on very rich volcanic soil, the green grain produced is of high quality. Virunga coffees are certified organic by Certisys, and also have the Fairtrade qualification
