Spela is a Portland, Oregon based clean beauty company committed to creating high quality cosmetics that are vegan, cruelty free, non-toxic, and made in the U.S.A. Spela comes from the word "play" and echos our fundamental belief that cosmetics are a form of self expression and self care. We strive to create ultra wearable shades that suit all complexions. We are a woman owned business, and whenever possible we are committed to supporting and working with other woman owned businesses. Spela was founded by Maryam Behrouzi after leaving a career practicing corporate law to pursue her passion for clean beauty. Although she always loved makeup, Maryam almost never wore lipstick because most of them would cause a mild allergic reaction, and she was never able to pinpoint what ingredient caused it. On top of that, the need to constantly reapply lipstick made it impractical to wear day to day. From this need and based on her own personal values, Spela was created, launching with a line of clean matte liquid lipsticks.
