San Francisco based artist and teacher, Trueman Bender has taken his love for art and Black culture to a place where it is an outlet for self expression and self-care. While in undergrad at UC Santa Cruz, Trueman studied art focusing on oil and acrylic painting. He didn’t see a career for him in the art world so he went back to grad school to follow his other passion; teaching. Once the pandemic hit he needed something to maintain his sanity and his creativity, and Trueman.Creates was born. His work focuses on his identity as a Black gay man, Black culture, the women who inspire him, and all other groups who do not see themselves in art.
