As a small girl growing up in a little southern delta town of Yazoo City, Mississippi, the kitchen was my center of the universe. Every special memory I have as a young girl are from the kitchen of our two-story century old rambling home. All the women in my family on both sides were excellent bakers. Nanny and Betsy Bug...the bearers of Lizzie's Cheese Straw recipe...made some of the best fudge and divinity in the county. My mother's rolls were well known throughout the town and she even had a "rolI list"...a list that you better hope you were on! It was this simple southern lifestyle where I was taught early on that the best gifts were those from homemade family recipes made with love and given with joy. Baking my treasured family recipes is my way of keeping true to my Southern roots. With my grandmother and aunt...Nanny and Aunt Betsy Bug... cheese straws recipe, I proudly carry on their tradition with every fresh batch of Lizzie's Cheese Straws.
