Who is behind RIce UP? The founders Arev Karpert and Thorsten Reuter have long been fans of Asian cuisine. Arev Karpert is a studied cinematographer and ran his own film production company for 14 years. Onigri were often a welcome snack for him during the long filming in Asia. Thorsten Reuter has been passionate about the culture of other countries for years. He is particularly fond of Asian (eating) culture. In Arev Karpert, he found the perfect business partner and with Onigiri, he found the right product to initiate a cultural transfer. With the founding of RIce UP onigiri GmbH, the two brought the centuries-old onigiri culture from Japan and Korea to Berlin. For their onigiri, they combine Asian cuisine with their own European-inspired recipes. The two have been producing their tasty, practical snacks in Berlin-Kreuzberg since 2011 and initially sold them from a specially rented old station kiosk. With passion and drive, the founders were able to outsource sales through well-known organic supermarket chains in the shortest possible time.
