In 1980, L. Carl Robinson, an expert in the herbal industry, developed a pioneering multi-step serialized process for creating completely alcohol-free liquid herbal products. Robinson noticed that alcohol was the primary solvent used in the industry, and he questioned why that was still the case. He believed that alcohol could damage or destroy the active compounds in herbs and decided to find a better solution. Robinson's innovative process incorporates using the non-alcohol solvent glycerin for making liquid herbal concentrates. This process is unique because it removes heat-sensitive water-soluble compounds intact, as well as compounds requiring more dynamic processes.
