It all began in 1992 with the idea that Eli Assouline, the founder of chillouts, wanted to finance his studies. He sold art prints at markets and events and did so more successfully than expected! In summer, handmade jewelry and sunglasses were added to the pictures. On his trip around the world, Eli found the unusual jewelry in various countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and then imported it to Germany. In 2003, his first own sunglasses collection. Eli had traveled almost all of Asia as a backpacker in the 90s. Anyone traveling in Thailand back then was also familiar with the notorious “chillout parties.” These parties embodied a certain lifestyle of lightness, as should his new brand and that's how Chillouts was born! The first cap collection was created in 2004, and Eli took it to the first major sports fair. The collection was extremely well received and was a resounding success. In the same year, the current headquarters and associated warehouse were built. Since then, the range has grown ever larger. In addition to the beanies, there were military caps, baseball caps, docker caps and much more, and from then on it was clear that chillouts would only specialize in headwear in the future. We have been designing two collections a year for many years now. Our mission is to develop high-quality, trend-conscious headwear for every head and for every situation, and we still do that today with a great deal of passion, fun and teamwork!
