【ORIGINS】 Koto was founded by two Japanese women, Yuki and Ayako. Growing up in Kyoto’s ancient Japanese capital, we attended a school in a temple’s precincts. However, as we grew up, we gradually realized that we lacked real knowledge of our hometown and our country despite being surrounded by traditional Japanese culture since birth. In a years, Ayako married an Italian and moved to Italy. Yuki remained in Japan and established an apparel store. Staying in touch, we realized our shared desire to make the best of Kyoto and Japan accessible in some way to people around the world. Thus, Koto was born out of the feelings that only the two of us could have from Japan(Kyoto)and Italy(Milan). 【OUR MISSION】 If people worldwide can learn and understand a little about each other’s countries and cultures, the world can become a more friendly and peaceful place. Thus, we hope you will enjoy learning about Japan and our hometown of Kyoto through Koto products. Who knows?
