No matter where you are on your retail adventure – from workshopping your business plan to getting ready for your grand opening – take a moment to celebrate the drive and inspiration that got you this far. Opening a shop requires a strong creative vision, a resourceful spirit and a determination to bring something to your community that is uniquely yours.
Every great retail journey deserves a great beginning, and we have a special opportunity to make that beginning a bit easier: our Open with Faire contest. We’re giving two newly or soon-to-be-opened shops £5,000 to stock their shelves with unique and inspiring products on Faire.
If you recently opened a space (from 2023) or are thinking of opening one this year, here’s how to enter:
- Fill out the short form linked here!
-
Submit an application for increased payment terms through Open with Faire—it takes less than 10 minutes. This is required in order to qualify for the contest.
- If you’re currently only selling on Faire – no problem! You just need to open a new account to buy on Faire (here) and can apply for increased payment terms during this process.
Entries close on Sept 4 (5 pm GMT). After that, Faire will select five up-and-coming retailers who will move on to the next round. Our judging panel of industry experts (below) will go on to select the two winners.
- Charlotte Broadbent, UK Country Lead at Faire
- Rebecca Morter, Founder and CEO of Lone Design Club
- Andrew Goodacre, CEO of BIRA (British Independent Retailers Association)
- Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones, Founder of The Black Farmer (Faire customer and active Open with Faire candidate)
Our Open with Faire contest is more than just a prize; it’s our way of saying we believe in you and your vision. So don’t put off making your retail wishes come true.
As Andrew says, “Retailing is a dynamic industry but incredibly challenging, especially for new starters. It is therefore fantastic to see Faire launch this contest. Retailing on high streets needs new ideas, new ways of working if it is to continue to be relevant to shoppers. I say well done to Faire, and I am delighted to be a judge and part of such a positive initiative”.
Good luck from the Faire UK team!
“OPEN WITH FAIRE” CONTEST
OFFICIAL RULES
1. Sponsor
These Official Rules (“rules”) set forth the rules governing the contest sponsored and administered by Faire Wholesale (UK) Ltd., 22 Berners Street, 1st Floor, London, UK W1T 3LP (“Faire”) called the “Open with Faire contest” (the “contest”) and govern your participation therein. NO PURCHASE IS NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN A PRIZE. A PURCHASE DOES NOT IMPROVE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING. THE ODDS OF WINNING WILL DEPEND ON THE TOTAL NUMBER OF ELIGIBLE ENTRIES RECEIVED. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW OR RESTRICTED BY LAW.
2. Eligibility
The Contest is only open to legal residents of the United Kingdom who are at least eighteen (18) years of age. Only Open with Faire-eligible customers are able to win, subject to Faire’s then-current criteria with respect to the foregoing.
Except where prohibited by law, by participating in the Contest and/or winning a prize, you irrevocably consent to the use of your name, image, photograph, likeness, biographical information, entry, statements attributed to you (if true) and any video footage related to the prize, for Faire and its affiliates’ advertising, promotional or other commercial purposes in all media now or hereafter known, worldwide and in perpetuity without additional compensation. You also consent to Faire putting your name on a winner’s list.
3. Entry Period
The Contest will open to the general public on July 3, 2024 at 9am GMT and will end on Sept 4, 2024 at 5pm GMT (the “Entry Period”). Any entries received after the expiration of the Entry Period will not be counted.
4. Winner Selection
At the end of the Entry Period, Faire will identify five (5) retailers (or soon-to-be retailers) to make it to the final round before Faire’s judging panel of industry experts who will select the winners (the “Judging Panel”). These five (5) retailers will be chosen by Faire in its discretion based on the quality of their respective applications and store vision, subject to confirmation that they are eligible for the Open with Faire program, before being moved to the Judging Panel. Two (2) retailers will be selected by the Judging Panel as the winners based on the aforementioned criteria in the Judging Panel’s discretion. All decisions by the Judging Panel are final.
5. Winner Notification
Winners will be notified on Sept 18, 2024 by email to the contact email address that was included in the original entry submissions (“Winner Notification”). Winners will be contacted by Faire via email to arrange prize delivery.
After receiving a Winner Notification, retailers have sixty (60) days to claim prizes and provide necessary information in order for Faire to send prizes. Prizes are final and cannot be exchanged for cash. Each winner is solely responsible for paying any jurisdictional and income taxes and any other costs and expenses not expressly covered by Faire in these rules. Any prize details not specified above will be determined by Faire in its sole discretion. Any other incremental expenses on prize not specified herein are the winner’s sole responsibility.
If any Winner Notification is rejected or returned as undeliverable, if a potential winner cannot be reached after a reasonable attempt has been made by Faire, if a winner cannot attend or participate in any portion of the prize, or if the potential winner fails to respond to a Winner Notification, the prize will be forfeited in Faire’s sole discretion and an alternate winner may be selected based on the original method of winner selection in Faire’s sole discretion. Faire may only look to two (2) alternate winners for the prize, at which point the prize may be deemed unclaimed and Faire will have no further obligation with respect to such prize. Faire reserves the right to modify the notification procedures in connection with the selection of any alternate potential prize winner. If legitimately claimed in compliance with these rules, the prize will be awarded. To claim a prize, the winner must follow the directions in the Winner Notification.
A prize may not be transferred and must be accepted as awarded. Faire reserves the right to substitute a prize with another prize of equal or greater value if the prize is not available for any reason, as determined by Faire in its sole discretion. Prizes are awarded “as is” with no warranty or guarantee, either expressed or implied by Faire.
6. Winner Verification
The winner will be required to prove eligibility. This may include, without limitation, any or all of the following: proof of age, residence and identity (e.g., via driver’s license, passport or similar government issued identification) within the time period required by Faire in order to claim the prize. Winning the Contest is not official until all documentation required by Faire has been completed, and the eligibility of the potential winner has been verified (including, without limitation, eligibility for the “Open with Faire” program). If the ultimate winner fails to complete all necessary documentation as required by Faire, they will forfeit the prize and an alternate winner will be chosen pursuant to the process set forth in these rules. If in compliance with these rules and all of the foregoing, the winner will be officially confirmed. Faire expressly reserves the right to delay any such announcement in its discretion.
7. Prize
There will be two (2) winners determined at the end of the Contest. Each winner will receive £5,000 in Faire credit to stock their new store from brands on the Faire platform. This credit can only be applied to one account and must be used to stock a new store, not previously opened or established stores.
8. Liability Release and Indemnity
EACH PRIZE IS OFFERED AND PROVIDED “AS IS” WITH NO WARRANTY OR GUARANTEE BY FAIRE OR ANY OTHER ENTITY, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. IN NO EVENT WILL FAIRE OR ANY OTHER ENTITY BE LIABLE TO ANY ENTRANT OF THE CONTEST FOR ANY DIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, EXEMPLARY, PUNITIVE OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES (INCLUDING LOSS OF USE, DATA, BUSINESS OR PROFITS) ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THEIR PARTICIPATION IN THE CONTEST, WHETHER SUCH LIABILITY ARISES FROM ANY CLAIM BASED UPON CONTRACT, WARRANTY, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), STRICT LIABILITY OR OTHERWISE, AND WHETHER OR NOT FAIRE AND/OR OTHER ENTITIES HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH LOSS OR DAMAGE. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE LIMITATION OR EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY FOR INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, SO THE ABOVE LIMITATION OR EXCLUSION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
By participating in the Contest, you agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless Faire and its parent, subsidiaries, affiliates, partners and its and their respective officers, directors, employees and agents (the “Released Parties”) from any and all liability for any claims, damages, injuries or losses of any kind, and to release all rights to bring any claim, action or proceeding arising out of, in connection with or relating to, (a) participation in Contest, (ii) personal injury or property damage arising directly or indirectly from the acceptance, possession, misuse or use of any prize, (iii) defamation, violation of publicity rights or invasion of privacy in connection with the Contest or acceptance and use or any prize, and (iv) any violation of third party intellectual property or other proprietary rights arising from or related to the Contest, any prize, or Faire’s advertising and marketing related to the Contest, any entrants or the winner, in all cases. You assume all liability for any injury or damage caused, or claimed to be caused, by your participation in the Contest, or the acceptance, receipt or use of any prize or any portion thereof. You further agree that in any cause of action, Faire and/or the Released Parties’ liability will be limited to the value of the applicable prize, and in no event shall Faire or any of the Released Parties be liable for attorney’s fees. The foregoing is only to the extent permitted by applicable law.
9. Additional Terms
In the event that the operation, security, or administration of the Contest is impaired in any way, Faire may, in its sole discretion, suspend the Contest to address the impairment and then resume the Contest. Faire reserves the right to extend the Entry Period if it does not receive a sufficient number of entries (as determined by Faire in its sole discretion) by the date set forth above. Faire reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify and seek damages from any individual who tampers with the operation of the Contest, violates these rules, or acts in a disruptive or unsportsmanlike manner. The failure of Faire to enforce any term of these rules shall not constitute a waiver of that provision. Proof of sending any communication to Faire by mail shall not be deemed proof of receipt of that communication by Faire. The Contest is subject to all applicable laws and regulations and is void where prohibited.
10. Disputes and Governing Law
Except where prohibited by law, you agree that (a) ANY DISPUTE, CONTROVERSY OR CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE GIVEWAY OR ANY PRIZE AWARDED SHALL BE RESOLVED INDIVIDUALLY, WITHOUT RESORT TO ANY FORM OF CLASS ACTION, (b) any dispute, controversy or claim arising out of or relating to the Contest or any prize awarded shall be resolved by binding arbitration administered by the London Court of International Arbitration (“LCIA”) in accordance with the LCIA rules then in effect, (c) any arbitration shall be heard by one (1) arbitrator to be selected in accordance with the LCIA rules, in London, England, (d) unless both you and Faire agree in writing, the arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person’s claims, and may not otherwise preside over any form of class or representative proceeding, (e) judgment upon any award rendered may be entered in any court having jurisdiction thereof and (f) any award or judgment shall be subject to all limitations and releases set forth in these rules and be limited to actual out of pocket damages, and shall not, in any event, include any punitive, exemplary, consequential or incidental damages, attorney’s fees or costs of bringing a claim, or any injunctive or other equitable relief. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE LIMITATIONS OR EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY FOR INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, SO THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
11. General Terms
The Released Parties are not responsible if the Contest cannot take place, or if any prize cannot be awarded due to delays, interruptions or failures due to acts of God, war, natural disasters, weather, acts or threats of terrorism, strikes, lockouts, labor disputes, work stoppages, fire, acts of government or other events outside of Faire’s reasonable control. If for any reason the Contest is not capable of running as planned, Faire reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend it in whole or in part. If the Contest in whole or in part is terminated or modified prior to the closing of the Entry Period, notice will be communicated by Faire. Faire reserves the right to modify and amend these rules from time to time during the Entry Period for clarification purposes. The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these rules will not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision. In the event any provision of these rules is determined to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable or illegal, the other provisions will remain in effect and will be construed in accordance with their terms as if the invalid or illegal provision were not contained herein. Faire’s failure to enforce any provision of these rules will not constitute a waiver of that term or any other provision of these rules. Headings are solely for convenience of reference and will not be deemed to affect in any manner the meaning or intent of these rules or any provision hereof. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. These rules and the Contest in general shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of laws rules.
