About Hot Head Candles

Hot Head Candles are a line of handmade, molded candles made to look like the heads of various politicians and historical figures. The business was born from a weekend art project my daughter and I came up with to learn about candle making. The goal was to see if we could figure out a way to make a candle in the shape of a head so we could watch it melt – we are big fans of "Raiders of the Lost Ark". Our prototype was a bit rough, but it was indeed a head – and it was quite satisfying to watch it burn. Over the following weeks we made several more – giving them to friends and family as gifts. After some encouragement, we set up an Etsy shop to start selling them online, and the response was surprisingly enthusiastic. The feedback we've received as helped us craft the mission of Hot Heads, which is simple – to help ease the tension between friends and family with differing political views, through the age old art of gift giving. Since turning this weekend project into a business, Hot Heads have been featured on multiple national television shows, including ABC's "The View" and "Jimmy Kimmel Live", and we have been commissioned to create a number of custom candles for celebrities, retirement parties, weddings, and other events. Though our product line has grown to more than 16 unique candles, all Hot Heads are still handmade by me and my daughter, in our home garage in Portland, Oregon using consciously sourced renewable materials, in both our products and our packaging.
