Maple And Oak Designs is mostly me, Leonie. Since 2012, I make colourful fashion accessories for people who believe in maximalism. Inspired by vintage fashions, flowers, dots and stripes, I work with reclaimed and eco-friendly fabrics. Everything is painstakingly handmade by myself in small batches. I cannot count the times I heard someone exclaim: “Oh, how cute!”, when they saw me wear one of my Rockabilly Headbands. A wholesale bestseller since day one, they continue to make people happy every day. Combined with a pair of my Vintage Fabric-Covered Earrings and even the plainest outfit will be fun! My favourite fall/winter products are my Walkstoff headbands. Walkstoff is a plush, cozy, knitted and felted wool fabric from Germany (just like me!). The botanical patterns are perfect to keep Canadian ears warm and colourful in winter. Summer or winter, pastel or vibrant, I’ve got something to match your individual style. Just like Iris Apfel said: “More is more and less is a bore.”

Aisling is the Gaelic spelling of my name, Ashley, and means “vision” and “dream.” It epitomizes the goal of my designs - to reflect who we are, what we do, and our hopes and plans for future adventures. Our designs are hand-drawn, painted and photographed by me! The artwork is mixed media-based utilizing watercolor, acrylic, graphite, ink and select imagery. One of my favorite techniques is gyotaku, the ancient Japanese process of covering a fish in ink and making rubbings with rice paper. The inspiration for my designs comes from my roots in the Midwest, my life in Colorado and a passion for travel, As a company we believe that life is an adventure - no matter where you live or what you do. Sewing New Futures works with women to provide paid training and mentorship as they learn about sewing, appliqué, textiles. With these skills, women gain a sustainable income while applying their creative talent and vision to artisanal work. Sewing New Futures is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and every purchase you make has a purpose. The money earned goes toward career training, education, medical care, and social services. Most importantly, sales of these goods benefit the women who are brave enough to disregard their cultural norms and refuse a life of prostitution. Hi I am Breanne, maker of all the knotted B hair accessories. Growing up I always enjoyed sewing, crafting and photography. I remember my Nana always asking my sister and I what we would like to do while there and my sister would always say, “Go Shopping” and I would always say, “Make crafts”. While on maternity leave from my career as an accountant, I started the knotted B as a creative outlet, while taking care of my sweet baby girl Odessa. Starting this online business allowed me to use my creative side, and do the things I always enjoyed growing up. Inspired by 1950’s trends, and a need to cover my post partum baby hairs (Mamas you know), I set out to add my own spin on the classic knotted headband. Channeling my inner Gossip Girl’s, Blair Waldorf, and fueled by coffee, I searched for chic and unique fabrics from both domestic and international designers. These headbands are carefully handcrafted on Vancouver Island, down to the colour of the thread used to make them. They add a fun touch to any outfit and can be worn casually with a solid tee, or dressed up with your favourite girls night out ensemble. Cookie & the Dude is a hand-made, textile forward brand that has been owned and operated by me, Helen Fawcett, in the California Bay Area since 2002. The name spawns from my two beloved cats I had in college, CookiePuss and Xanadu. Cookie was named after a song by my favorite hip hop crew, the Beastie boys, and Xanadu was named for Olivia Newton John and her glam-tastic role in the movie Xanadu. His name was quickly shortened to The Dude when he became large and lazy, similar to role of The Dude in the Big Lebowski. All in all, the name sums up my youth and growth as I moved through the formative years of my life. The brand, however, is very much inspired by mom, a woman who could go toe to toe with Martha Stewart any day of the week. She taught me how to be resourceful and unique all while adding color and whimsy to the world. After 20 years in the business I am still very much inspired by my mom, the joy I find in seeking out fabrics and findings to create my next collections, and the satisfaction of handmade creations for all to enjoy.
