Sushma is a founder and onwer of a social enterprise, Sunavworld, based in Atlanta Georgia. Sushma was born in Kathmandu, Nepal and has been in US, with her family, for more than two decades. Sushma is a social worker by profession and still leads a small nonprofit empowering refugee and immigrant women in Atlanta. Throughout her career in community development and social justice, in Nepal and in United States Sushma always recognized the importance of economic independence, especially among women. She believed that the economic self-sufficiency was one of the key component for grassroots women to improve their social economic status in the society. Thus, Sunavworld was born. Sunavworld supports three grassroots women’s coops in Nepal that produces handmade fairtrade purses, scarves and folk arts. These organizations provides employment and leadership skills to more than 1000 women across Nepal making a real difference in the lives of these individuals, their families and communities at large. Sushma travels back to Nepal regularly and enjoys working with artisans on product designs for global customers. Sunavworld products are in retail stores, such as boutiques, handmade gift stores, museum stores, home and garden centers, etc. across United States and Canada.
