American Basil first began under a different brand name, as a small coastal greenhouse nursery in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Encinitas, CA, growing organic, sweet Italian basil hydroponically for local farmers markets in Southern California in 1995. After one particularly abundant summer, there was so much basil, we didn’t know what to do with it, so with encouragement from farmer's market customers, the very first “seed to sauce” pesto was created, Pesto Perfectto! We now have a variety of pestos including dairy-free, nut-free and spicy!
