About Afar Foods

Hey there! I'm Gene Zhu, founder of Afar and creator of Afar bars. I launched my savory protein bar brand in 2022 with just my mom, a tiny ghost kitchen, and a big dream to make the most delicious, exciting, and healthy bars around. After handmaking 40,000+ Afar bars and perfecting the recipe, we've scaled up and are excited to shake up the snack bar category. Why Afar? Let's be real, bars haven't kept pace with what snackers want in 2024. Everyone's craving diverse flavors from around the world, but their options are limited to the same old sugary, mushy bars with chocolate and peanut butter flavors. That's where Afar bars come in. They deliver savory, global flavors like Mexican Chili Lime, Italian Bruschetta, Japanese Miso, and Indian Masala. And they're crispy, not mushy. Each bar packs 10g of protein with only 3g of sugar - that's 80% less sugar than most bars, and we didn't have to rely on stevia, sugar alcohols, or artificial sweeteners to make that happen.
