As a basket weaver and self-taught knot crafter, I am inspired by the nautical knot crafting crafted aboard ships for centuries around the world. I also am inspired by the rope I commonly found on the shores of the Bay of Fundy and Northumberland Strait growing up and collecting with my own children while enjoying visits to the shore beachcombing. I use the most durable plant fibre rope “Manila” to produce traditional knot craft pieces. I weave and knot craft with colourful polypropylene rope that is used as floating lobster rope to produce traditional and non-traditional patterned items. My intent as an artist is to create designs that generate visual pleasure, physical and emotional comfort by providing memories of experiences of time spent along the maritime shores and is eco friendly. Fishing, sailing, bonfires, clam and lobster boils, skipping stones, hunting for sand dollars and beach glass or a walk in the fog to escape times of stress, and enjoy the sight, smell and sounds of the oceans waves, boats and foghorns.
