Hi, I’m Juna. I’m a Detroit-based artist and the founder of Jytte Designs. Jytte started with the idea of making a special bag as a wedding gift for one of my good friends. Leather was nothing like the fabrics I was used to working with. I broke every needle I had for my home sewing machine and the bag looked nothing like I envisioned. So I started teaching myself how to work with leather tools, hand stitching techniques, lacing patterns… Little did I know that the challenges of making that first leather bag would lead into this. I have been taking baby steps toward realizing this line since that first fated bag in 2014; refining my skills, learning new techniques and saving up money by waiting tables. Moving across the country and having a child slowed my plan to a crawl. It feels like it has taken forever. There have been many times when my vision for this collection has drifted into the background so far it has almost disappeared. But I kept taking those steps and now I’m here, releasing the STEPS collection to you. I put my heart into the design and construction of every bag. I am excited to share them.
