Out Story In 1996, Yok Chan decided to create her own chilli oil to save money, as her husband would finish jars from the shop every 3-4 days(!). Over time she tailored the recipe, using influences from Chinese, Malaysian and Sri Lankan cuisines. Once it ventured out of the household in the mid 2010’s, people enthusiastically highlighted its taste after trying it, almost in disbelief. The chilli oil soon started seizing the limelight and taking centre stage in most conversations. Yok Chan’s Chilli Oil’s unique flavour plus its ability to compliment (but not overshadow) any dish it is added to, is what makes it stand out and why it gained its word-of-mouth notoriety. After being a fun side hustle for a while, we almost shut up shop, but through everyone’s encouragement, help and advice, we decided to keep going. Now we hope we’re on the way to bringing the recognition that Yok Chan’s Chilli Oil fully deserves.
