We are a values-driven seed company that practices and celebrates responsible seed production and stewardship. We are best known for our beautiful artist-design seed packs (Art Packs) that appeal to gardeners, gift buyers, and lovers of art and nature. Our Art Packs, most fundamentally, tell stories. We challenge our artists to convey in a manner that is fully their own, the history and meaning of the seed variety contained in each pack. These stories were once integral to traditional societies-stories of seeds were often origin stories for entire communities and peoples, and the lore and beliefs that accumulated around seed varieties reflected the nearly familial way in which gardeners and farmers regarded their crops. Our society is, by and large, no longer connected to plants this way. But we like to think our Art Packs help to stitch our fragmented world back together: useful seeds, evocative art, both equally valuable to our experience of being human.

White Stable Farms is a plant business run by the father – daughter duo of Chris & Grace Mower. After retiring from his corporate job, Chris’ 4 children told him he needed to find a hobby to keep him busy. Chris always had a passion for plants. He was a horticulture major in college, and has been an avid gardener throughout his life. Plants have always brought him joy, and he knew he wanted to spread his love to others. When beginning the company, he quickly realized that plants can be intimidating for many consumers as they don’t know how to care for them and when they have questions, they have no one to ask. He wanted to provide this 1:1 service and be able to use his knowledge to grow other’s love for plants. While traveling in Italy visiting his daughter, he saw a Kokedama hanging in a store window, and knew this unique style would be the foundation to his business. He mastered the technique of making Kokedama and started White Stable Farms. Grace soon joined to help with all things marketing – starting with business cards and banners and now has expanded to running ecommerce and social media. Chris started selling Kokedama as local farmers markets and was surprised about how much consumers loved the novelty and beauty of Kokedama. They soon expanded to selling via ecommerce to be able to reach customers nationally. OUR BEGINNING | We were weekend gardeners, saving seed in the typical envelopes and plastic baggies. Being designers by day, we decided to try our hand at creating a kit that could neatly store seed in a compact case that not only functioned well but looked good too. Just for fun we sent a prototype to the largest English garden company we could think of. To our surprise, they called and wanted everything we had in stock. We said some crazy number but in reality we had one. A mix of excitement, panic and many long nights followed but we made the order, by deadline, and Potting Shed Creations, Ltd. was born. Twenty-six years have passed since that very first design and even today, with each new product, the excitement remains. OUR MISSION | Potting Shed is a design company inspired by reclaimed objects, a love of food, science & modern culture, with a simple focus — to design and build, by hand, genuine products for everyday living. OUR DESIGN PROCESS | We have a less-is-more approach. We create every product from the ground up (research, test, illustrate, write, print & make by hand) all under one roof.
