The Woobles

It actually wasn’t too long ago that I crocheted my first plushie. I wanted to make a handmade gift for a friend, and I’m not gonna lie. It was hard. I didn’t know what I didn’t know. I spent weeks piecing together YouTube videos, diagrams, and crochet blogs. I tried to rejigger what I found to fit what I was working on. I made a lot of mistakes. And I did a lot more of hoping for the best. All I could think was - what’s a girl gotta do to crochet a cute penguin, goshyarnit?! And that’s why we made The Woobles - to give beginners like you the easiest way to learn crochet. But The Woobles is actually about more than just crochet. It’s about proving to yourself that you can always learn something new. Changing how you see yourself and your potential to grow. And building the confidence that you can take on whatever comes your way. So come wooble with us! We can’t wait.

Jessica Long Embroidery

Stitching entered my life after the birth of my son as I was looking for a way to slow down, connect with my hands and reduce anxiety. I had always found peace through art but I found that the slow, meditative and tactile experience of using needle and thread to create beauty was especially satisfying. Plus, tossing a hoop and thread in the diaper bag for some stitching at the park proved easier than packing an easel and oil paints. My goal is for my students to find the same joy and relaxation that I find when I am creating art through hand embroidery. I also hope that they have a lot of fun! What inspires me In college I wanted to be a natural science illustrator. Ultimately, I began a more traditional career working in a biotech lab but my love of our natural world never faded. My doodles and paintings always heavily featured flora and fauna, and I never passed up an opportunity to visit a natural history museum or zoo. Thanks to life’s many surprises I have become a full-time hand embroidery instructor and pattern designer. And now I can draw (and then stitch) all of my favorite creatures! So somehow my two loves have magically merged and so I delightfully present to you a library hand embroidery patterns inspired by our natural world.

Marvling Bros Ltd

The creation of Marvling Bros is a story that began in 2010 with two mums at the school gates of a sleepy surburban primary school in Essex… In 2010 the head mistress of the school held a competition for the pupils. The task seemed straightforward and simple enough: How much can you fit in a matchbox? Hayley’s seven-year-old son was not enthused by idea, but Hayley entered for him and came up with all sorts of objects that not only fitted in the matchbox but fulfilled a concept too. For example, a grain of rice and a coriander seed which she labelled ‘curry takeaway’, and a picture of the Mona Lisa and Van Gogh’s Sunflowers became a miniature art gallery. She did not win the competition, and most people thought it was mad, but one other person at the school totally got it - Emma. Two years later, Emma, inspired by the matchboxes, (and having just offloaded her youngest child at school) thought the concept could be the basis for a business and for nine months she and Hayley beavered away researching products, developing ideas and learning how to run an ecommerce company. They launched in July 2013 with an ecommerce website and 12 different product designs. In the first week they sold exactly ten matchboxes, half of those to people they knew. Not the big hit they were hoping for. However, by their first Christmas, they were flying out of the door. In the last eight years the business has gone from strength to strength, while keeping the company ethos - to provide inspiration
