Shisso Tea Company was established by Founder CEO & Tea Sommelier, Vanessa Chislett in October 2011, after working in tea since 2006. She was born and raised with her four siblings in Calgary by their entrepreneurial mother who bootstrapped and ran a day-home in their home. Tea was always the staple energy fuel in her home growing up, Red Rose, according to her father was the bees knees. Her professional tea journey began during this time, 15 years ago at Steeps where the seedling of her love for tea began to take root. This lead her to working for a variety of different tea companies, from tea houses to tea retail companies, followed by a natural transition into working in wellness, food & beverage. Her natural leadership directed her to many management roles beginning 11 years ago. As she’s pressed on in the search for the truth of tea’s history, she discovered a severing of its cultural and spiritual roots. In 2019, Shisso Tea became Shisso Tea Company Inc, and added on a second advisor shortly after with an incredible background in marketing and product development. During the pandemic of 2020, Vanessa was interviewed on a podcast called Calgary Business Podcast and shortly grew its official advisory board. Over the past 6 months our focus has been on raising capital, applying for grants and funding and reworking the model of our Ethical Tea Subscription which is ready for launch. And the journey is continues, in a new way on a new level.
