Back in 2016 when I was expecting my first child, I became much more conscious of what I was putting on my body, and thereafter my baby’s body. Years later I discovered that many of the products I had been using, that claimed to be natural & safe, contained ingredients that were toxic to the environment, potentially irritating to the skin and many of which were still packaged in single use plastics. Not long after the birth of my son, I was diagnosed with Post Partum Depression, and struggled with a loss of identity and purpose. After finding it difficult to locate products that were both non-toxic and environmentally friendly in their ingredients and packaging, I began developing my own. Allowing myself to learn something new, work with my hands and showcase my creativity and skill, I was able to find my sense of self and purpose again. This is how Eralume was born - as an opportunity to bring other people and families products that combined both plant-based goodness in eco-friendly, refillable packaging without worrying about the impacts on their health or the environment.
