The year is 1924. We are located in Derrick Port, a booming oil town located somewhere down the Arkansas River. You feel an intense feeling of there being something "more," almost as if a completely different world is practically at your fingertips. As you approach the corner of Quarry and Sorghum, you hear a woman howl with laughter, drawing your attention to the muffled jazz music that has been softly underscoring your stroll for the better part of five minutes. You find yourself standing at a nondescript door between a tailor and an oil mogul's office. Curiosity washes over you, and suddenly the muffled jazz is covered only by happy chatter and the sounds of glasses clinking on the wooden tabletops. Plush curtains, dim lighting, and abstract paintings must have been carefully curated to evoke a sense of opulence. For all you know, the haze of the cigar smoke was as much an intentional design choice as the amber windows that line the tops of the walls. Of course, this is entirely a work of fiction. I wasn't actually there in 1924. But how incredible is it that you can be walking down the street and experience a completely new set of senses just by opening a door.
