About Kitpas

Founded in 1937, Kitpas started as a manufacturer of regular chalks, quickly becoming a favored choice for schools and businesses. In 1967, we expanded to Bibai-shi, Hokkaido, a city facing environmental challenges due to massive scallop shell waste. Collaborating with the local government, we developed a patented process to repurpose these shells into chalk production, addressing environmental concerns while improving the quality of Kitpas Chalks. Over 70% of Japanese schools now choose our eco-friendly chalks. Our commitment to innovation led to the creation of Kitpas Art Crayons—an innovative, water-soluble material for various surfaces. These vibrant, non-toxic crayons have reinforced our reputation for quality art materials. However, our mission extends beyond product excellence. Guided by a philosophy of inclusivity, we began hiring individuals with intellectual disabilities in 1960. Today, 70% of our workforce comprises such individuals. Our cooperative workspace, tailored for diverse needs, emphasizes inclusivity and has become integral to our company culture. Balancing customer satisfaction and eco-friendly practices, we strive to enrich experiences while empowering individuals with disabilities. Looking ahead, our goal is to employ 100 individuals with diverse capabilities by 2030.
