When I was young, my four brothers and I would wake up every Sunday morning to the sweet smell of cinnamon vanilla syrup cooking on the stove. As much as we wanted to sleep in, the aroma would drift upstairs into our rooms and wake us up hungry to eat a big pancake breakfast with our family before going to church. You see times were tough and we didn’t grow up with much money so we couldn’t afford to buy brand name syrups at the grocery store. Instead, Mom would cook our pancake syrup from scratch using only simple ingredients. The warm cinnamon vanilla syrup poured over freshly made pancakes, aside bacon and eggs, was pure heaven. Now as adults we have continued the family tradition of Sunday morning pancakes featuring Mom’s homemade syrup. It wasn’t long before Mom had grandkids visiting to enjoy pancakes as well. One day at the breakfast table somebody wondered aloud, “This syrup is so good it should be in the grocery store!” The rest is history.
