In 2017 Vogue interviewed Boris Oak, founder of clean haircare brand EVOLVh, for an exposé on the devastating effects of deforestation from palm oil production. Vogue was interested in Boris’ thoughts on palm oil as an ingredient in beauty products and what the overall beauty industry response to this issue should be. The interview inspired him to make a greater impact. In 2018, Boris met Dr. Tarek Milleron, an Ecologist from Berkeley who has dedicated his career to preserving rainforests in the Amazon. Tarek asked Boris if he would be interested in helping with a major initiative—training local harvesters to climb Palm trees to harvest their precious fruit instead of cutting them down. The project needed funding and a company that could create demand for sustainably harvested fruit to incentive harvesters to switch from cutting to climbing. And thus, Boris' vision for RUVI Beauty for Good and the Glow Serum was born. Producing the Glow Serum starts in the Peruvian Rainforest in the canopy of wild palms. Bataua, an antioxidant-rich superfruit known for its miraculous skincare benefits, is wild-harvested, carefully sorted, washed, and cold-pressed into an oil. Accompanied by 4 other skin-nourishing ingredients, the Glow Serum is the pinnacle of clean, effective skincare.
