She first had the idea to start her own handbag line after local friends saw her designs made with sustainable, hand dyed, hand woven ikat from Central Asia. The community here has been so encouraging and supportive that she even named her brand after them - the SJW in SJW Bags London actually stands for St. John’s Wood, a north west enclave in London. Her business is all about women supporting each other, from the close-knit community in her neighbourhood to the talented artisans she works with in Istanbul and Fergana Valley. As a sustainable brand that is inspired by a sense of community, her designs create a positive impact, and she aims to focus on charitable projects and brand collaborations.
