Fashion and beauty brand creative director, Naomi Azuma started The Knot House after a trip to the Dominican Republic in early 2012. She was drawn to a distinct style of handmade shell collars she saw on dogs she met on the beach. As knitter and crocheter in her spare time, upon returning home, she tried her hand at making them for her own dogs. After complements on her dogs’ collars, Naomi realized she could easily make necklaces of a similar design. A friend wore one of her first pieces to a meeting with a well known fashion designer who took notice. After learning her design had caught the style icon’s eye, this validation pushed Naomi into a deeper interest and appreciation for the art of macramé. She leaned into her personal aesthetic of mixing of “high and low” materials and was drawn to the utility of climbing rope, cotton marine rope and sash cord combined with the whimsy of bright colors, shells and driftwood. Our home, hound and human goods are inspired by our beach and city lifestyle and are handmade with love in Montauk and Brooklyn, NY. (Our dog collar leather tab buckles get a little help from a manufacturer in NYC.) We practice sustainability by sourcing dead stock rope for our limited edition dog collars and engage in zero-waste production by using every piece of scrap rope possible.
