Due to the prevalence of mental illness among many friends and family members, mental illness research is very important to Missy and Renae. As of 2019, a portion of all proceeds is donated to the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation. Both Missy and Renae had businesses of their own before Luna & Loki. Missy had a beaded jewelry business called “Beadles” in the early 2000s. Renae had a cake pop business when she was a new mom and going to school for her marketing degree. In 2017, Renae began making leather earrings as a hobby and they quickly became popular among friends and family. It was the perfect timing for Missy and Renae to turn this fun hobby into a real business. They combined Missy’s background in graphic design and jewelry making with Renae’s background in marketing to begin selling online and at local events. Four years later, they have sold over 6,000 pieces, shipped to all 50 states, and are officially licensed by the University of Notre Dame.
