Cora began crafting jewelry from her Cape Elizabeth home studio in 2018 following the sale of her 23-year-old management consulting firm. That year she created Cora Hornby Jewelry Insights, producing uncommon necklaces, bracelets & earrings such as her gear-ring collection, geometric slide necklace and turquoise and silver stacked bracelets. While always a lover and consumer of jewelry, she did not think about making pieces until a visit to a craft shop in Lima, Peru, where she fell in love with their designs and thought – “I can do that.” She has since been trained in Maine and California as well as online and sells her pieces on-line at corahornby.com. She also sells wholesale including to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh. When not in COVID lockdown, Cora visits markets around the world where she sources semi-precious stones, African beads, crystals and freshwater pearls. For example, she has shopped the markets in South Africa, Hong Kong, Hungary, Guatemala, Mauritius and Germany. But topping them all is her jade collection from Guatemala where her former business partner moved after selling the consulting firm.
