St. Elmo was a mining town founded in the Rocky Mountains, near Bueno Vista, with its peak in 1890. Over 2,000 men and women called the Sawatch Mountain Range home as they seeked a better life and fortune in the mine shafts surrounding St. Elmo. With the bust of the gold rush, the town eventually became abandoned by 1920 - but now tourists from all over the world still climb these mountains seeking their own fortunes. St. Elmo Catalog is a collaboration between leather maker Chalet Supply and photographer Michael Weidemann. Like miners seeking gold, often we chase our new philosophy of fortunes: memories, stories, and experiences; usually with a camera in hand. We set out to create a catalog of timeless, minimal, leather straps that would not only secure cameras, but also enable more people to take their cameras with them for more of their day to day journeys to capture life’s moments as they unfold around us. Often straps can be bulky and ugly - only adding that extra barrier from people to bring their cameras with them as they go on a quick hike or spend a weekend visiting friends. We take great pride in our American Bridle Leather Straps that compliment rather than hinder people’s lifestyles, outfits, and routines.
