About Luala Silk

Like the best of stories, the Luala Silk journey unfolded from a personal experience. Having worn and slept in pure silk since she was a child, Luala Silk founder Layla Vu-Becker grew up in Vietnam observing her grand mother and her mother using this exquisite fibre in her everyday. When she moved to San Francisco ( USA), she brought some hand quilted silk duvets and silk pillowcases to give to her friends who all fell in love with the craftsmanship and unbeatable second-skin feeling when sleep in silk. She also discovered just how saturated the market had become with mass-produced silk. Spurred by the desire to share exceptional quality silk products at affordable price, Layla launched Luala Silk in 2020 Luala in Vietnamese means Silky which reflects the inner equilibrium and the grace of mindful living in Hanoi, Layla's hometown. She collaborated with the silk farmers and silk weavers in 3 dedicated farms in Vietnam to provide the stable and best quality supply of silk fabric. She worked with small groups of quilters, embroidery artisans in villages who still kept traditional techniques that have been passed down from generations. It is labor intensive craft that requires artisanal skill that is over a thousand years old and Luala Silk proudly to produce one-of-a-kind and better silk than other common industrial version. Through the lifestyle products, Luala Silk wants to revive the cottage industry that is at risk of being lost, connect the past and the future
