DONT GET CAUGHT was created in 2018 by Trixie E, a California native living in New York, who believes in creating ethically made, versatile clothing that empowers the person wearing DGC. With a over a decade working in the fashion industry, Trixie E. was conflicted with the fact that her passion for this industry contributed to the exploitation of garment workers as well as the exploitation of our planet and its resources. DONT GET CAUGHT marries the design process, art, and her values to create garments that are sustainable, ethical, and style-forward. Trixie does all of the graphics herself and loves referencing and reclaiming vintage images of women created for the male gaze by drawing from the female perspective. She references vintage escort ads, adult film posters, and photographer Araki’s Tokyo Lucky Hole for her art. She is inspired by Japanese culture and arts built on repair like kintsugi and shashiko, as well as other Asian cultures including her own Filipino heritage. She has an affinity for the over-the-top decadence of the late 80’s and early 90’s, brought on by watching her mother’s style rituals and routines growing up. Read their story
