Hi my name is Emma, owner of Knotty_baby. My inspiration for my business came from becoming a mum to two beautiful boys and living through the struggles of teething! Being a mum and working within the health care sector, I have gained vast experience with teething babies including my own. Shopping around, I noticed a real lack of quality natural teething toys and decided to do a little research to develop my own range of products for my little one. My research led me to discover the benefits of wooden teething toys which are not only plastic free and eco friendly but have some magical properties of their own. After lots of overwhelming comments about how beautiful and unique my baby boy’s teethers looked and felt, I decided to turn my new found passion into a small business now known as Knotty_baby. Where it all started... In 2009 I visited Nepal for the first time. I simply fell in love with the country and the people, and since then I have been visiting the country 1-2 times each year. Gamcha is a small village in Nepal where my family before the big earthquake owned an ecological driven guesthouse. My father and I became fascinated by the traditional handicrafts that crafters were making in their small workshops - and here the idea of Gamcha started. We wanted to share the beautiful work in Europe and in mean time support the Nepalese crafters. Shanti and Nirjala are two women who started a felt production in 2004 and in collaboration we started designing products fitting the European market. Europeans loved our idea which means that today more than 125 women are working making our designs with fair treatment and payment: We have the vision to help even more nepalese women to get a fair payed job and therewith independence which is rarely for women in Nepal. Shanti and Nirjala has become my good friends and even though they live and work over 7000 km from Copenhagen, we have close contact and even talk on daily basis. With the growing felt production we've added organic cotton products to our collection with illustrative motifs that carry the same playful, imaginative aesthetic as the felt products. TilleyTree is a small family business based in the little village of Bare, overlooking Morecambe Bay and the beautiful mountains of the Lake District. After we got married during lockdown 2020, we thought about where our journey would take us next. Soon after, TilleyTree was born. We want to create a high-quality customer experience, as well as take care of the beautiful world that we live in. All of our packaging is eco-friendly – even the stickers are biodegradable! Already in just a year, our business has doubled in size. We have recently moved from working on our dining room table to a brand new garden studio, supporting 2 lasers and 4 members of staff! Sasha and Claire (Sasha's Mum) do most of the design work and Dan brings them to life through his laser machine! We also have Jade and Michael, our newest members and dear friends, who do an incredible job of helping us to make and package our products. We find inspiration from all around us and plan on adding even more designs as the company grows. The materials we work currently include slate and wood of varying thicknesses and types. Sasha is also a Primary School teacher and plans on combining TilleyTree with Education in the future, to support local and national schools through educational resources and learning tools.
