Throughout history, artists have created their best work in their most trying times. For jewelry artisan, Blaire Derouen, no truer statement can be made. There’s no disputing that the earliest times of the COVID-19 pandemic were trying times, but for the residents of Southwest Louisiana, the challenges were further complicated by the landfall of both a category 5 and a category 4 hurricane; barely three months apart. It was during this period of living “off the grid,” so to speak, that Elizabeth James Artisan Jewelry was born. What started as a hobby to keep her hands busy, and her mind off of her surroundings, quickly became an obsession for Derouen. Having been a lifelong connoisseur of jewelry accessories, Derouen knew from experience what quality accessories looked and felt like. Being a person who always strives for excellence in whatever she does, she began to scour the internet for sources to acquire quality materials. Satisfied with the quality of the earrings she created, Derouen presented her creations to her family and closest friends as Christmas gifts in 2020. The responses and feedback she received eventually led to inquiries, and in short order, Elizabeth James Artisan Jewelry was born. Read their story
