Brief history and origin of Mead. Mead is the first alcoholic beverage that was originally consumed by man, and is considered a forerunner of beer and wine. In ancient times it was highly consumed and spread widely among different peoples and cultures. In Europe, it was made and drunk by the Greeks, Romans, Celts, Normans, Saxons and Vikings; Julius Caesar himself made mead his favorite beverage. In America, the Mayans consumed it with pieces of tree bark and in some of these cultures it was used to praise heroes and chosen by the gods. At Bodegas Valhalla years ago we decided to recover this lost historic drink and bring it back to our time. Our mead is made with local honey, the homemade yeast and the character of the Seville water used in its preparation, together with a completely traditional recipe allow us to offer a mead full of nuances and faithful to the flavor of its origins.
