The Smokey Carter is Husband & wife team Howard & Samantha Carter. They met back in 2005 when they both worked onboard cruise ships. Their travels around the ports of Central America, the Mediterranean and the Eastern Caribbean was the initial inspiration behind their range of award winning artisan barbeque rubs, sauces, chilli jams and chutneys. Their love of international food, travel and sunshine, along with Howard’s passion for outdoor cooking, forms the backbone of the business you see today. Officially launched in 2013, after making a batch of BBQ sauce for family at Christmas, proving to be an instant hit, The Smokey Carter was born. Their continued mission is to bring those international influences from places such as; the United States, Mexico, Caribbean, Portugal, Greece and Asia to their extensive range of sauces, seasonings and gifts. Like everyone, my favorite foods take me back. Growing up in Oklahoma City, my family owned a window and siding company. Every Saturday morning, we would spend the day there entertaining ourselves. Every Saturday we would order take-out from our favorite BBQ place, eat lunch at the warehouse office and then go about our day. After moving to Chicago, I always missed that delicious barbecue sauce that I loved so much. My memories of growing up in Oklahoma will always be have a place in my heart. The Oklahoma BBQ I remember always offered a variety of meats - chopped brisket, pork ribs, smoked bologna and hot links, always prepared over hickory wood and served on a piece of plain white bread. The sauce is what I missed most! The kind you find at a Route 66 BBQ joint. Oklahoma Style BBQ sauce is an in-between sauce. It's in between a Carolina mop sauce and a thicker, tomato based Kansas City style sauce. Okie Bo’s was born after years of re-creating that Oklahoma style sauce. That same traditional taste - and at the same time using only the highest quality ingredients and no high fructose corn syrup or artificial flavors. To me it is total nostalgia - after sharing it, I realized that others loved it too. Okie Bo’s is a sauce that gets back to what it is really all about. Sharing a meal with friends and family, and making memories.

The Flash Point Sauces Story (“from Passion to Product”) After watching a TV Chef make a couple of hot sauces, I thought I could do much better. So, after a trip to our State Farmers market, I came home with a variety of peppers. Mostly Habaneros and Jalapeno’s, but also a few Poblanos and Serranos. After charring them, removing the skins, and smoking them, I threw them into a blender with some spices and voila, my first hot sauce! I got Friends, and staff at a few local restaurants to try it. They really liked it! I recruited a few friends to help make a large batch to share. And for the next several years we would get together every chance we could get to have a “Sauce Day”. The result was always a great time and nice big batch of sauce. Soon, it got to the point we had so many people asking for the sauce we couldn’t afford to give that much away. So, they started asking to buy it! Here’s where the Flash Point Sauces story really begins. Together with my best friends we set out to make the best quality sauces with right amount of heat, and most important, great flavor. Unlike a lot of craft sauce makers, we weren’t after a blow your head off amount of heat. We've been in operation for a little over 6 years now. In that short time our products have won many national and international awards! Not to mention many happy customers!

How it all Started: Stan and Chenoa began in 2017 with their own line of seasonings. Stan impressed her one night with his Beef & Pork Rub. He developed this because he was tired of the same old marketed brands which contained salt as their main ingredient and, despite the claims, did not embrace the true tastes of Louisiana. Chenoa took one bite and said, "You should sell this!" Requiring from her doctor to reduce her sodium intake, she threw down a can of Tony's and said, "Can you make this but without all the salt?" He took up the challenge and the signature seasoning of the Sweet Smokie Joe family was born...Creole Kick. Since then, their passion for authentic Louisiana seasoning became well known as had their passion for all things outdoor. In late 2019, the dream expanded with the addition of Sweet Smokie Joe's Retail Store which opened February 2020 in Hot Springs, AR. Pick up some of their unique seasonings and you will then understand if someone ever asks, "Do You Smokie Joe?"

The aim is to preserve the traditional methods of the industry, but at the same time shroud it in an ethical, and ecological ethos. The result of this concoction is exceptional sea salt. Every small batch harvested is part of the wider mission grounded in craftsmanship, locality, and quality.
