    About Angry Little Asian Girls

Created by Lela Lee in 1994, the Angry Little Asian Girl started as a short video made after experiencing an animation festival’s offensive cartoons. Embarrassed by its' candor and scared of the social reproach facing a female expressing "impolite" thoughts she hid it in a drawer. Stuck behind the counter of her mom's dry cleaners, years later Lela extended the video, drawing new episodes to create 5 (un)animated episodes. Screened at American Cinemateque, critics from the LA Times and LA Weekly gave "Angry Little Asian Girl" glowing reviews. Lela grew the idea into t-shirts, sold from the trunk of her Toyota Corolla, leading her to trademark and launch the website in 1998 as an online store. Self-publishing comics drawn from topics that made her angry, she selected an angry posting of the week chosen from entries submitted readers. Changing the name from "Angry Little Asian Girl" to "Angry Little Girls," Lela was finally published in April 2005. More books followed, "Angry Little Girls®" growing as a popular line of merchandise sold in malls across America. Beyond cartooning, Lela works as an actress on prominent television, films, and commercials.
