The straw part is produced and braided by hand by craftsmen in Portugal and the textile part sewn by hand in Belgium (certified handicraft).

Hello. I’m Liz and I’m the founder of gus + beau. I’ve worked in online retail for over 10 years, working for some incredible companies. After the birth of my second son, Gus, in 2017, I found myself looking for ways to create safe playing areas for him in our living spaces at home. I struggled to find beautiful playmats which would blend in with our interiors. As I watched Gus grow, toddle and play, I spotted a gap in the market; a premium playmat that was not only functional and safe, but complemented our home’s style and aesthetic. So, while on maternity leave, I decided to design and manufacture my own. After working in retail (and spending a lot of time on Instagram) I could see that parents wanted simple designs in muted tones and clean patterns when it came to playtime for their babies. My first two designs, Triangle and Circle, are made to blend in to your living area, nursery, kitchen, or wherever you want to create a safe play space for your little ones. My greatest inspirations are my sons, Gus, Jerry and Beau. Our rainbow baby boys, Gus and Jerry, and our first, Beau, who lives forever in our hearts.
