In 1996, Kim Camarella-Khanbeigi was an aspiring entrepreneur with just one problem. She didn't have a business idea. Nope, with the rise of the "dot com" era, revolutionizing how plus size women's clothing was perceived and distributed was not something she could have dreamed up. Well, that is, until she went on vacation. On vacation with her girlfriend, Kim noticed that none of her friend's clothes had any labels in them. When asked why, her friend said it was her mom who had to make everything for her as no cute clothes were available past a size 16. At this point in the story, picture Kim's face (she's a cute brunette) and then up and slightly to the left a very bright lightbulb. So armed with her lightbulb moment, Kiyonna was born. Fast forward 23 years and today, Kiyonna can be found in specialty stores nationwide and beyond and has expanded to include specialty occasion and bridal gowns. The collection is sustainblity produced, with a whopping 100% made in the US (actually within a 60-mile radius of the Anaheim, CA headquarters). Her inspiration comes from her academic art background and growing up in Connecticut. Her designs are collectibles for many customers and sought after all over the US. Hi, I’m Louise and I run Kaohinani from our base in Brighton, UK. For the past few years I’ve been searching out the best ways to bring you ethical, planet-friendly clothing at a fair price. I started my journey on Depop, picking up the most colourful clothes from charity shops and car boots, spending hours trawling through the rails to find a hidden gem. Nowadays my stock comes from artisan suppliers all over the world! The clothes we stock are carefully sourced from vetted suppliers whose workers are paid a fair wage for their craft. These clothes are crafted from quality materials, there’s no fast fashion here! Where possible, we like to use recycled materials for our products, lessening our impact on the planet and it’s resources. You’ll find many of our clothes have lived a past life, for example our sari smocks and bell sleeved tops are made from stunning jewel-toned vintage sari fabric. We use pretty preloved Kantha blankets (already upcycled from cotton saris) for our beautiful Kantha jackets. Hello, I know that not everyone knows who my label is. I have been very blessed to be where my brand is today. Expanding into Burlington isn’t just about me, it’s about every foster kid who thinks they are a statistic in a system that is so corrupt.
