When they did put on some shoes or sandals, they were a rubber slide with two straps. The problem was the sandals were in weird sizes and so poorly made that they wore out really fast. After Josh (son #2) got married he noticed that lots of people were wearing these type of sandals in the winter, with socks. Everyone loved them in the mainland, USA. So we started selling other brands and they sold super quickly. So we decided to start our own brand (J-Slips Hawaii) and kept adding sizes and colors. We now have 9 colors and 21 sizes of J-Slips Hawaiian Jesus Sandals and have just added 4 new pastel colors! J-Slips are oil stained so the colors last longer. They are made of 100% PVC rubber and are comfy and look super cool. After 4 or 5 containers, my sister in Elkhart, Indiana volunteered to store the J-Slips at her warehouse which made our shipping much more central and cheaper.

OUR HISTORY Who are we? Created in 1987 (initially under the name of Karston) Emilie Karston is a French brand of shoes for women, located in Maine et Loire, a historic footwear basin. Taken over in 2017 by a grandson of a leather craftsman and the son of shoemakers, passion and family spirit are still at the heart of developments. Designed in Saint-Macaire-en-Mauges, all our creations are made by our team of designers. Manufacturing, which was still carried out in the small French workshop until spring 2020, could not be maintained. A random encounter between two women in a Tanzanian marketplace - one a humanitarian, one a Maasai beading Artisan - resulted in Her Best Foot Forward. We offer ethically made, handmade goods and use the proceeds to drive social change. One hundred percent - that's right! 100%! - of net proceeds support our Artisans, their families, and our social enterprise (UhuruPads) in which an additional 13 women are employed making East Africa's first compostable sanitary pad. The pads are provided, along with health and hygiene education to girls attending goverment schools - more than 5000 girls are supported by our program. As for our talented women Artisans, they operate their beading workshop collaboratively and with transparency. Now known regionally for their excellence, they do not wait for us to sell their products but are paid (above local standards) by us for their work and are free to indivdually and collectively utilize proceeds as they see fit, all while creating their work within a safe, clean facility.
