Deschampsia (“day-shomp-see-ah”) is French, meaning, “of the fields”. We believe that "Nature Based Self Care" is an ongoing living dialogue between ourselves and the world at large. We bring together the techniques and traditions found in ancient perfumery, contemporary PNW ecology, and American herbalism. Our holistic and sustainable self-care products are hand-crafted without the use of industrial extracts, harsh preservatives, or excessive waste. We emphasize the use of whole plants from pure organic-grown and wild-foraged seed-to-bottle sourcing. We represent and support a more resilient relationship between our everyday rituals and a thriving planet. Whole-Plant, Seed-to-Bottle Philosophy: We set ourselves apart because we MAKE (not buy) our extracts using time-honored techniques. We are committed to using whole plants versus industrial plant "extracts". The original volatile compounds (i.e., essential oils) from these herbs are lost due to industrialized processing such as extreme heat, pressure, and industrial solvents before they are concentrated into a shelf-stable form. More recently, these "extracts" have appeared in many small home-based "natural" and "clean" producers in search of easy ways to add plants to their products without the need to form personal relationships with their herbs.
