Our productions are only made in small batches and made on demand to avoid excessive consumption and waste. Our brand, Pink Haley, is named after my daughter, Haley. The business was originally formed as a cloth manufacturer and converter in 1903 under the name Bulloch, Cowell & Co. In the 1960s it became a limited company and entered the Scottish gift and textile market under the brand name Glen Appin of Scotland. The Glen Appin of Scotland brand image and logo were given a makeover in 2012. By 2014 the brand was more familiar to our customers than the original company name so it was changed to Glen Appin of Scotland Limited. Today Glen Appin of Scotland is recognised in Scotland, the UK and internationally as a supplier of high quality textiles and Scottish gifts backed by first class service. Our distinctive Highland Cow logo can be seen in a wide variety of retail outlets from small village shops to castles. The company was based for many years in Albion Street in Glasgow, and then for almost ten years in Elderpark Workspace, before moving in January 2020 to our present home in Bessemer Drive in East Kilbride. The Shebobo team consists of over 400 artisans that work in collectives around the countryside of Madagascar, an island east of Africa. Our products are made from all natural fibers, including raffia, rush, sisal & banana palm. These fibers are renewable, sustainable & biodegradable. The raw materials are hand dyed and prepared for looming by splitting the palm leaves into thread like balls of yarn for weaving or crocheting, using the same traditional weaving techniques learned over 100 years ago. These fibers are naturally dyed and woven into hats, bags and other accessories. Every accessory is unique, and there can be slight irregularities in the shade and shape of the bags due to the nature of its craftsmanship. Because each piece is hand-dyed the natural fibers may fade with time. With over 80% of the population of Madagascar living below the poverty level, it is imperative to support artisans with fair trade & fair wage practices to sustain families, communities & artisan traditions.
